Government Affairs Intern Summer 2026

The Government Affairs Intern will support the Investment Company Institute’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts by assisting in research, policy tracking, and administrative coordination. This internship offers exposure to the intersection of financial services and public policy, providing hands-on experience in legislative analysis, stakeholder engagement, and PAC operations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitor and summarize federal and state legislative developments relevant to the investment management industry.
  • Listen to congressional hearings, summarize key discussions, and prepare concise reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing briefing materials, policy memos, and correspondence to government officials and stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, travel coordination, and expense processing.
  • Support the coordination of ICI Political Action Committee (ICI PAC) activities, including event planning and reporting.
  • Help maintain department databases, track lobbying activities, and manage contact lists.
  • Attend internal meetings and shadow lobbyists to gain insight into advocacy strategies.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events, including candidate fundraising events and government affairs briefings.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Strong interest in legislative affairs, financial regulation, or trade association advocacy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A high level of confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and research abilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
