Vermont EPSCoR SOCKS Summer 2026 Undergraduate Research Internship
Conduct paid undergraduate research in computational social science, data science, health, media, and more.
The VT ESPCoR SOCKS Summer Undergraduate Internship program allows students to engage in research associated with the NSF EPSCoR award. The interns are paired with research teams working within the interdisciplinary SOCKS program. At the end of the internship, the teams come together for a symposium to share their findings through oral presentations and written reports. Students can expect a full-time, high-impact, hands-on research experience for 10 weeks.

- Indigenous Narratives and Storytelling in Global Environmental Governance
- Data Ethics, Privacy and Belief Propagation
- Migration Narratives and Social Media Discourse – how they shape our understanding of climate change-driven migration
- Analysis of local news stories and programs
- Understanding and Promoting Human Connection in Serious Illness
- Language Analysis of Trauma Survivors' Narratives
- Computational Linguistics
Program Details:
- Duration: May 25 – July 31, 2026 (10 weeks)
- Location: University of Vermont (UVM), Burlington, VT
- Positions: 12 undergraduate interns
- Compensation: $5,000 stipend. Cost of food, campus housing, and travel stipend are covered by program in addition to stipend.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student
- Expected graduation date after May 2026
- During the program:
- Participate in workshops
- Submit a 10-page research paper
- Deliver a 20-minute presentation at the summer symposium
