About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. About the Internship:
The content production and writing internship in the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications contributes to the college’s storytelling efforts by writing engaging and accurate content for use across print and digital platforms. The intern will work with professional communicators to research, draft, and edit stories that highlight faculty scholarship, student success, alumni achievements and develop content for print and web that promotes the variety of academic programs and disciplines in the college. This internship provides practical experience in writing for public audiences in a higher education context, offering opportunities to build a professional portfolio and develop skills in journalism, marketing, and strategic communication.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Research, interview, and write feature stories, news articles, and profiles for websites and newsletters.
- Assist in drafting copy for marketing materials, departmental announcements, and event promotions.
- Collaborate with the communications team and departmental representatives to identify and develop story ideas.
- Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to college and university style and brand guidelines.
- Support internal communications by writing short updates, announcements, and spotlight pieces.
- Contribute to editorial planning meetings and content calendars.
- Maintain accuracy, tone, and accessibility in all written materials.
- Learn and apply best practices in SEO, digital storytelling, and audience engagement.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student at UT.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, grammar, and editorial accuracy.
- Ability to write for a variety of audiences and platforms.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
