Position: Workforce Wellness Program Intern – Spring 2026 Graduate Student for NYC Health+ Hospitals/ Elmhurst
Program description: NYC Health+ Hospitals/ Elmhurst is the second oldest municipal hospital in NYC serving the most diverse community in the world. Ranked by US News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital in the areas of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Heart failure, Kidney failure, Orthopedics, Pneumonia, and Heart Attack. The Workforce Wellness Program at NYC Health+ Hospitals/ Elmhurst aims to support staff wellbeing across 8 domains - Emotional, Environmental, Financial, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Social, and Spiritual. It serves as a resource for staff during times of crisis and the Workforce Wellness team work hard to partner with frontline staff to identify and conduct performance improvement initiatives and other opportunities to improve staff and patient experience. The flagship program is Helping Healers Heal, a peer to peer staff support program created to address the emotional and psychological needs of hospital staff, including but not limited to, acute reactions to unanticipated and adverse work-related events, reactions to stress, secondary, vicarious, and complex traumatization, as well as compassion fatigue and burnout.
Fieldwork Position Overview:
The Workforce Wellness Program Intern will support the Chief Wellness Officer and Workforce Wellness Director in streamlining visual communications and promoting consistent branding and design practices across departmental initiatives. The intern will leverage their graphic design skills to enhance internal communication materials, develop uniform visual branding, and collaborate across multiple hospital departments to ensure cohesive messaging and design. The position’s responsibilities encompass supporting the initiatives of the Wellness Program.
This is an in-person fieldwork/internship position, from January 2026 – May 2026 during the hours of Monday-Friday 9am- 5pm. The position will conclude at the close of your program’s Fall 2025 semester. The fieldwork recipient will receive a $25 per hour stipend with a max of 21 hours per week.
Workforce Wellness Program Inter Fieldwork Responsibilities:
- Management of the staff Wellness Center, participation in wellness events, and rounding.
- Develop and design internal communication materials, including the employee wellness magazine.
- Collaborate with key departments to ensure cohesive branding across wellness and NYC H+H/Elmhurst initiatives.
- Assist in graphic design for wellness-related events and programs.
- Support management of visual content and graphics for the Wellness Centers and associated communications.
- Engage in program performance improvement through visually compelling data presentations and infographics.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of visual communications promoting staff wellbeing.
- Assist in the coordination of wellness events and programing.
- Facilitate a wellness event in accordance to the guidelines of the eight dimensions of wellness.
Potential area of specific project involvement available to Workforce Wellness Program Interns:
- Redesign and streamline the hospital-wide employee wellness communication platform, enhancing usability and engagement through strategic visual content.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited Master's program.
- Proficiency with graphic design software (Specific focus on Canva a plus).
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to engage with others.
- Strong visual storytelling abilities, with a keen eye for aesthetics and detail.
- Interest in healthcare and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in word, excel and survey monkey.
