We are seeking an experienced sound technology professional with strong skills in Pro Tools, hybrid mixing, and large format console operation. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in both digital and analog workflows, including Dante networking and surround sound mixing. This is an opportunity to mentor the next generation of audio professionals in a hands-on, state-of-the-art learning environment.

The candidate should have strong proficiency in Pro Tools, with the ability to obtain or hold Avid Pro Tools 210M certification. They should demonstrate expertise in hybrid mixing techniques using both digital and analog outboard gear, as well as the ability to teach 5.1 surround sound mixing workflows. Experience with large format analog consoles (such as API 1608, Neve, and SSL) and the ability to teach console signal flow and operation is essential. Additional desirable skills include knowledge of tape recorder setup and calibration, and the ability to teach basic Dante networking and analog patching.

The selected candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts. They should demonstrate a collaborative teaching style and be eager to work closely with colleagues in a multi-program department. Flexibility and a hands-on approach are essential, along with a commitment to engaging students through both practical and theoretical instruction. Just as important is a strong dedication to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population


Teaching Responsibilities

The instructor will teach courses with a focus on:

  • Music Production
  • Sound Recording 1 & 2
  • Mixing Techniques

The goal is to ensure that students develop proficiency in industry-standard tools, workflows, and equipment.


What are the Position Requirements:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the following (or related) fields:
    • Sound Production
    • Audio Technology
    • Audio Engineering
    • Electrical or Computer Engineering
    • Film Technology with an emphasis on Sound
    • Sound Design
    • Recording Arts
    • Audio Technology and/or Sound Production–related field
  • OR an associate degree (AS) in a related field with substantial professional experience in the audio industry


Experience in one or more of the following areas:

 

Audio Technology

  • Audio systems and audiovisual systems
  • Live sound systems rigging
  • Audio equipment troubleshooting

Sound Production

  • Live sound reinforcement using large format and FOH consoles and workflows
  • Operation of analog recording studios with large format consoles and tape recorders
  • Sound production using multichannel digital audio workstations

Postproduction

  • Multichannel rerecording mixing using multi-computer setups


Preferred Licenses & Certifications

Preferred qualifications include a Pro Tools Instructor Certification and a Pro Tools User Certification for versions 2018 or later. These certifications demonstrate a candidate’s ability to train others effectively in industry-standard digital audio production environments and reflect a commitment to maintaining up-to-date technical expertise.
