Senior Transformer Design Engineer

Work Site: 101 West Waukau Ave
                         Oshkosh, WI 54902
PAY: Salaried, exempt. Based on experience.
Duration/Usual Hours Per Week: Permanent, full-time/40 hours per week min. 
Shift/Workdays: First Shift. Monday through Friday. 8:00 AM TO 4:30 PM.

Job Description Summary: Perform highly specialized electrical engineering duties in the area of magnetic component design. Duties involve the defining of product specifications and performance requirements in unusual or new areas of application and providing broad technical support and assistance to other Engineers, under the general direction of the Director, Engineering.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze user requirements to determine design parameters including materials and construction which will satisfy customer’s performance requirements. Communicate with customer, as required, to better define their requirements and provide application engineering assistance. Prepare estimating designs to
    enable customer quotation requests to be satisfied in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare specifications for prototypes and regular production requirements. Specify materials, provide coil winding operations sheets, assembly instructions, bills-of-material, and applicable engineering drawings, as required, for manufacturing. Review specification change notices (SCN’s) for approval. Define mechanical design requirements and approve the layout and manufacturing construction
    drawings. Review test procedures and test results to assure product meets the performance requirements of the customer specification. Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Quality Assurance, as required.
  • Collaborate with superior and other Design Engineers in the day-to-day development of transformer designs, specifications, and testing procedures. Provides support and assistance in the utilization of a computer database to provide efficient design practices and procedures. Provide technical support and
    assistance to colleagues and Engineers of lower classification to broaden the department capability, as required.
  • Develop proprietary component designs for the growth and profitability of the Company. Participate in Company presentations to customers. Host outside Inspectors when visiting the plant. Participate in Engineering, Technical, and Trade Association activities to remain abreast of industry developments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or associated with the responsibility.
     

Qualifications:

  • Education: Broad knowledge of technically specialized field of magnetic component design for a wide area of applications, magnetic and dielectric materials, heat transfer and transformer manufacturing practices. Equivalent to 4 years of Electrical Engineering college education. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer, Physics, or related field preferred. 
  • Experience: Over 7 years up to and including 8 years of experience in transformer or magnetic compound design in a manufacturing environment.
  • Perform highly technical electrical transformer design duties that involve in-depth knowledge of product application and engineering specifications. Outstanding judgment and ability is required to deal with complex factors not easily evaluated and make decisions based on conclusions for which there is little
    precedent.
  • Under general direction working from policies and general objectives with little functional guidance. Rarely refer specific cases to superior unless interpretation or clarification of policy is involved.
  • Probable errors may involve loss of important customer accounts and/or major material and factory labor expenditures. Design techniques influence factory equipment expenditures.
  •  Inside and outside contacts involve carrying out company engineering program. Improper handling will have marked effect on results. May be required to deal with persons of substantially higher rank.
  • Regularly work with confidential new designs, development, and applications which, if disclosed, may be detrimental to the Company’s interests.
  • Character of duties require part-time normal and part-time concentration attention and coordination.
  • Good working conditions. Exposed to laboratory conditions and occasional travel to customer sites.
  • Responsible for final approval on matters concerned with product specifications (staff advisory credit).
