Transportation and Natural Resources Intern

Join the Transportation and Natural Resources (TNR) Department as an intern and gain hands-on experience shaping projects that impact our community. In this internship, you will support one of Travis County's teams and learn directly from professionals in the field. This internship provides a unique opportunity to develop technical expertise, enhance leadership skills, and gain firsthand experience on how County programs contribute to improving the quality of life for residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and support the team they are assigned to
  • Be reliable, show up, and complete tasks on time
  • Be engaged and ask well-thought-out questions
  • Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
    • Project and communication assistance
    • Research and data analysis
    • Preparing reports and presentations
    • Reviews and site visits
    • Attending meetings and training
       

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: 
Recent graduate or actively enrolled in a college program related to the internship you are applying for, with at least 30 credit hours completed.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: 
Some positions may require a valid Texas Driver’s License and the ability to work on-site at our Downtown Austin office at least two days per week.

Skill in: 

  • Gathering, interpreting, and summarizing technical information
  • Explaining complicated technical problems in simple non-technical language
  • Problem-solving and decision-making
  • Verbal and written communication
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reports and presentations

Ability to: 

  • Manage time well, perform, and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Meet deadlines and produce projects in a timely manner while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Work across various teams
  • Research, compile, analyze, and interpret products and reports
  • Active listening and openness to feedback
  • Willingness to support colleagues on shared projects
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
