Human Services Assistant

Assists clients in identifying and obtaining available benefits and social and community services. Coordinates Town of Cromwell Human Services Programs, including community Food Pantry operations and Holiday Food Programs.

 

1. Provides clerical and administrative support for the execution of elements and aspects of the social services programs for all three programs which include Senior Center, Human Services and Transportation Services. Makes minor work decisions on departmental policies in absence of Director.

 2. Completes intake with clients and determines program eligibility and provides information and referral on programs available. 

3. Operates all standard office equipment including a personal computer to complete forms, statements, letters, receipts, reports, etc. from copy, rough draft, or general instruction. Performs general office bookkeeping functions and records, including confidential client and state records and documents. Performs other duties as assigned. Perform large mailing and copying projects. Assist clients in obtaining information to establish confidential files. 

4. Maintain Community Food Bank which includes; daily tasks, such as but not limited to: receive and weigh all incoming donations, stocking of shelves, filling of food orders for clients and rotation/discard of food as required, cleaning of floors, refrigerator to assure clean environment, Solicit, train and work with volunteers and organizations on annual programs such as holiday baskets, food drives, adopt-a-child program, and other related programs. Completes required CT Food Bank annual forms with clients including TEFAP, Intake and Income Verification Form. Maintains ServeSafe certification for Food Bank worker.

 5. Coordinates annual food drives to support food pantry operations

 6. Serves as an intake worker for community programs such as Generation Power, Energy Assistance, Renters Rebate and other programs available; completing applications with clients and determining eligibility and processing of applications. Documents all client interactions and services in department software. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 MINIMUM Qualifications -High School Diploma or GED certificate One (1) Year of related experience; Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Age, Citizenship, Licensure and Background Screening: • Driver's License required Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field and 1-2 years of experience
