Government Affairs Spring Intern

IA&B is seeking an undergraduate (junior or senior preferred) student majoring in Political Science or Public Policy for a paid spring internship. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Work hours are flexible and will be agreed upon prior to the start of the program. The intern will primarily work remotely and out of IA&B’s Mechanicsburg office, with occasional local travel to the Capitol or meetings as needed. Occasional local travel to the Pennsylvania Capitol or other meetings will be required. In addition, the internship will include one overnight trip to Washington, D.C. on April 22-23, with all expenses covered by IA&B.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES

  • Learn about Insurance Agents & Brokers, key public policy issues affecting the insurance industry, and how trade associations advocate in our state capitol.
  • Build core Government Affairs skills: using legislative tracking tools, performing bill analysis and policy research, drafting advocacy materials, and communicating positions to legislators and staff.
  • Assist in planning IA&B’s participation in the 2026 Big “I” National Legislative Conference including member promotion, scheduling legislative visits, and other program logistics.
  • Support development of government affairs materials, including issue briefs, fact sheets, and social media or newsletter content.
  • Participate in meetings with legislators and regulators (in person or virtually) and prepare concise reports for staff and members.
  • Provide support to IA&B’s Government Affairs efforts.

Insurance Agents & Brokers (IA&B) is a professional trade association representing independent insurance producers across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Independent agencies are locally owned small businesses who sell insurance through multiple carriers, offering their customers a greater number of options, unbiased advice, and personalized service. IA&B advances its members’ interests through advocacy, education, and other member services from its Mechanicsburg, PA headquarters.
