Intern - Cyber Security Analyst

VELCO’s Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a summer internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate college students.  Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to protect reliability and affordability of the transmission system.

 

This position is for Summer 2026.

 

How you will make an impact

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cyber Security Analyst Intern to join our Information Security team. This role is ideal for students who are passionate about cybersecurity, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to protecting enterprise systems, networks, and data.

As a Cyber Security Analyst Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in monitoring, analyzing, and responding to real-world security events while working alongside experienced security professionals.

Examples include:

Assist in monitoring network and system security alerts using SIEM tools.

Support vulnerability assessment and patch management activities.

Participate in security incident investigations and documentation.

Conduct research on emerging threats, malware trends, and attack techniques.

Help develop and maintain cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices.

Contribute to employee awareness initiatives and phishing simulations.

Assist with audits, compliance checks, and security reporting.

 

Who you are

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field.

 

Knowledge/Skills

Basic understanding of networking concepts, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and cybersecurity principles.

Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, Splunk, Nessus, or similar is a plus.

Knowledge of frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or MITRE ATT&CK is desirable.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment.
