Criminal & Traffic Law Associate Attorney
Simms Showers LLP, a growing Northern Virginia and Maryland based law firm, is seeking an Associate Attorney for our Criminal and Traffic practice area. - Represent clients in criminal and traffic cases, including misdemeanors, felonies, DUI/DWI, and traffic violations.
 - Conduct client intake and consultations to assess case facts, explain legal options, and develop defense strategies.
 - Appear in district and circuit courts for arraignments, hearings, motions, trials, and sentencing.
 - Negotiate with prosecutors for plea agreements, reduced charges, or alternative sentencing options.
 - Prepare and argue motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or modify bail/bond conditions.
 - Perform legal research on statutes, case law, and procedural rules relevant to criminal and traffic matters.
 - Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents with appropriate courts.
 - Review discovery materials, police reports, and evidence to identify legal issues and defenses.

Requirements:
- 1+ years of experience as a public defender or a Commonwealth Attorney.
 - Ability to flourish in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities
 - VA Bar License
 - Legal writing, analysis, and drafting skills
 - Ability and willingness to travel to different courts in Northern Virginia
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Jury trial and/or traffic court experience
 - Prior judicial clerkship experience
 - Ability to travel regularly to western Virginia (e.g. Frederick, Clark, Rt. 81 corridor)
 - Spanish speaking skills are a plus but not required.
