Video Instructor
Community TV Network (non-for-profit) is a small, grassroots, youth media organization. CTVN works with at-risk youth of Chicago, offering digital media production programs and guidance. Our video instructors teach youth across Chicago, in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods. The candidate will possess a passion for nonprofit work and media production focused on social issues, particularly in service to at-risk and economically-disadvantaged urban youth.
OVERVIEW:
The three levels of video production (pre-production, production and post-production) are presented and practiced through hands-on techniques. The editing (post-production) of the video utilizes scripts, storyboarding, paper edits and computer edit software and equipment. Teach students digital video techniques and communication skills.
Emphasizing but not limited to media literacy concepts, filmmaking language, sound techniques and how to research a topic. Oversee their development of outlines, treatments and story boards for their project. Screen various forms of youth video content which will also include past student projects from CTVN (documentary, narrative, public service announcements, poetry,etc).
Provide training in the skills needed to choose the scope of the project they wish to produce and then work as a crew on the production of their final video project.
We are currently seeking a Video Instructor to teach on the South Side of Chicago.
Education and experience needed:
- College Degree in Film/Television/Journalism or related field
- Digital TV/Video production experience is required
- Knowledge/ interest in youth and community issues
- Prior experience or strong interest in working with youth
- Must have a sample reel of film or video produced by you
- Ability to travel to the South Side of Chicago
Duties:
- Teach high school youth digital media production classes, producing video projects created by the class
- Use the digital video medium to enrich reading, writing and organizational skills
- Meet with collaborating teachers and organizations with the goal of enhancing the teacher/student experience
- Work with CTVN video production staff
- Maintain necessary paperwork, evaluations and lesson plans
- Write and submit a monthly report
- Meet with the Executive Director each week
- Attend staff meetings and other scheduled events
- Build literacy and critical thinking skills through the digital video making process
- Teach the basic overview of digital video equipment operation
- Cultivate story-telling skills
