GiGi’s Playhouse is an established network of Down Syndrome Achievement Centers. Serving children and adults of all ages, each Playhouse provides educational, therapeutic, and career development programs at no charge to families and in a format that individuals with Down syndrome learn best. All programs aim to maximize self-confidence and empower individuals to achieve their greatest potential. Founded by GiGi’s mom in 2003, GiGi’s has grown into a network of 58 Playhouses, including two international locations in Mexico.
Program Overview
GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to serve as a Special Events Intern. The ideal candidate is organized, outgoing, and interested in nonprofit event planning, marketing, and fundraising. This internship provides hands-on experience in coordinating large-scale community events, engaging donors and sponsors, and promoting mission-driven initiatives. Interns will gain valuable experience working on events such as galas, 5Ks, and other community fundraisers while supporting monthly engagement events. This position requires the ability to travel within the greater Indianapolis area and a minimum commitment of 10–15 hours per week.
Specific Duties:
- Plan, implement, and manage signature events including galas, 5Ks, and other special events alongside volunteer committees and staff.
- Coordinate branding, print, and mailing activities for assigned events.
- Assist with recruiting, training, and engaging volunteers, event chairs, and committee members.
- Support communication of event updates, benchmarks, and timelines with staff and leadership.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with sponsors, attendees, and community partners to promote long-term engagement.
- Assist in marketing efforts to local businesses, schools, and community organizations to grow event participation.
- Develop and implement social media and email marketing campaigns related to special events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Creative thinker with attention to detail and a passion for community engagement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest or experience in event planning, marketing, or nonprofit management preferred.
- Must be able to travel within the Indianapolis area.
