Graphic Design Intern: Spring 2026 - Spring 2027 (Remote Work Allowed)

Job description

Career Services & Student Employment provides career coaching and programming while developing valuable relationships with employers and campus partners to provide students with ample opportunities for experiential learning and career development and placement.

 

One paid internship position is available in Career Services beginning with training in December 2025 and then beginning to work at the beginning of the Spring 2026 semester (January) through the end of the Spring 2027 semester (May). The position has the possibility of renewal after the first year (2026-2027 academic year). Schedule and hours are flexible depending on academic schedule (around 10-15 hours per week). Applications will open in early November and will be reviewed as they are submitted. 

 

*Once fully trained, there is a possibility of remote work if applicant has the necessary technology and Adobe design software (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office applications, and other graphics packages) and work is conducted in Ohio. 

 

Goals and Learning Objectives

  • Begin/supplement the creation of a professional portfolio
  • Develop skills in the design and production of marketing and public relations materials
  • Develop communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work on a team
  • Apply previously learned design skills to the development of a variety of marketing pieces and publications
  • Develop new and/or enhance technical competencies utilizing Adobe design software (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office applications, and other graphics packages
  • Ensure that 100% accessibility compliance is met for all graphics and documents created through using Yuja software
  • Develop time and project management techniques to meet deadlines

 

Areas of Responsibility/Major Projects

  • Create and update semester and annual publications using Adobe design software and Canva
  • Create and design marketing pieces/publications from conception of ideas to print in the form of fliers, posters, postcards, banners, brochures, newsletters, table tents, handouts, television advertisements, t-shirts, promotional items, etc., and all other graphic design needs
  • Ensure timeliness and strong communication when working on projects to meet deadlines and accurately complete projects
  • Demonstrate an understanding of The University of Akron’s brand standards and accurately apply them to marketing/publication materials
  • Stay current on modern trends and styles in advertising and apply them to designs
  • Assist staff with support of the distribution of marketing materials when needed
  • Assist in making periodic graphic and content updates to Career Services & Student Employment’s website as needed

 

Qualifications

  • University of Akron undergraduate or graduate student (Must be at least sophomore status)
  • Preferred major in Graphic Design
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative on projects and see through to completion
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Adobe CS6 design software (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), and Canva
  • Ability to listen to others and convert their ideas/concepts into marketing pieces/publications
  • Ability to take and apply provided feedback
  • Hours: flexible depending on academic schedule (15 hours per week preferred; minimum of 10 hours per week)
