HWS Department of Recreation
The Department of Recreation strives to offer quality programs and services for participants to maximize their daily activity, enhance their knowledge on the value of health and fitness, and improve their overall quality of life.
Bristol Field House Student Monitor:
Position Overview: The Department of Recreation would not be able to successfully carry out its mission without student employees. The Bristol Field House Student Monitor’s assist with facility operations and constituent health & safety. These positions are designed to create opportunities for student leadership and growth, in areas such as customer service, communication, professionalism, initiative, and conflict resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the health & safety of all department constituents by implementing & enforcing HWS Recreation’s policies and procedures and department emergency protocols
- Consistently helps to create a friendly and welcoming environment for ALL persons utilizing Bristol Field House
- Assists with cleanliness and organization of facility and equipment
- Manages operations pertaining to front desk (i.e. equipment rental, processing memberships, answering phones, identifying & checking-in users, etc…)
- Manages operations pertaining to fitness center (i.e. cleaning fitness equipment, re-racking and organizing weights, and monitoring the safety of users within the space)
- Attending mandatory staff meetings and trainings
- Helps promote department’s programs and services
- Helps facilitate department’s program evaluations & assessments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Availability to work a minimum of 2 to 4 weekly schedule shifts (4 to 10 hours per week) including weekends (applicants for position in the summer, 4 to 5 weekly schedule shifts, 15 to 25 hours per week, including weekend)
- Physically must able to lift objects weighing a maximum of 50lbs
- An “I can” & “teamwork” attitude/mindset
- Attentiveness to detail, good time management and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn, develop leadership capabilities, and work through conflict.
- Customer Service oriented.
- Familiarity with campus recreation, and a gym atmosphere.
- Good time management skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
- Come to the facility regularly and/or participation in multiple Intramural Events.

Our application process usually starts in December and concludes by February 14th every year to hire for the following year. Students must apply via handshake as well as filling out the attached Microsoft application form using the link below. Review of applications will start immediately if we need people for Fall semester and/or Winter Break, otherwise review will take place on a rolling basis and students will be invited to interview starting in late January to early February.
