Land and Sea Operations Fellow - July 2026 Start
The Land and Sea Operations Fellow will work closely with both the Land and Sea Operations Departments at JAARS to help train and equip missionaries to travel safely via motorcycle, 4WD vehicle, or vessel. The Land and Sea Operations Fellow may choose an emphasis in administration, training, or maintenance.
Position Responsibilities
Administrative (Report to Administrative Manager):
- Assist with project management, including the development or use of spreadsheets and other useful tools
- Assist with keeping calendars current
- Assist with keeping records of departmental activities
- Assist with communication within the department and beyond
- Assist in planning and logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, training courses, promotional events and conferences
- Assist with NetSuite tasks as appropriate
- Other responsibilities as agreed upon by the supervisor and the volunteer
Training (Report to the Training Manager):
- Help plan and organize training courses, both at the JAARS Base as well as abroad
- Assist with facilitating training courses for missionaries in water travel safety and motorcycle/4WD operation and safety
- Become proficient and competent in operating manual transmission, 4WD vehicles, and motorcycles and driving in an off-road environment
- Become proficient and competent in water travel safety, boat operation, and trailering and launching boats
- Collaborate in continual improvement of Land and Sea Ops training material as well as adapting existing materials into a virtual format
Maintenance (Report to Maintenance Manager)
- Perform administrative activities associated with the effective management of shop operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports, maintaining digital records of vehicle repairs, and planning periodic preventive maintenance such as oil and filter changes
- Learn and assist in routine and preventative maintenance on boats, motorcycles, and/or 4WD vehicles
- Assist in keeping the maintenance shop clean and orderly, improve storage and organization

- Have (or be willing to acquire) First Aid/CPR certification
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (trade school, military, YWAM discipleship training school, etc.)

- Working experience with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
- Valid US Passport or the ability to obtain one.
- Bilingual
Administration
- Prior administrative or management experience
- Majors include: Business, Communication, etc.
Training
- Prior teaching, training, or coaching experience
- Prior off-road 4WD and/or motorcycle riding experience
- Prior boating experience
- Motorcycle endorsement on driver’s license
- Boater Safety Course certificate and/or Lifeguard certificate
- Majors include: Vehicle Mechanics, Engineering, Physics, Business, Transportation and Logistics Management, Operations Management, Maritime Maintenance, Maritime Safety Management, Maritime Transportation Studies, Occupational Safety, Outdoor Education
Maintenance
- Basic to intermediate experience with hand and power tools in a shop environment
- Majors include: Vehicle Mechanics, Automotive Maintenance, Maritime Maintenance, Maritime Transportation Studies, Occupational Safety
