Quality Improvement Internship
Introduction
- The PIA Quality Improvement Internship will introduce, develop, and improve the skills of students interested in public health, patient safety, performance/process improvement, or healthcare administration.
Internship Scope:
- Duration and Location: 40hrs/week for 8 weeks, hybrid (onsite 1 day/week)
- Learning Modes: Project work, facilitated workshops, observation
Compensation:
- This is a paid internship. Students will receive a stipend and can also utilize this program to acquire credits towards their degree. Interns are responsible for any housing, parking, and commuting expenses.
Eligibility
- Graduate: Graduate level students completing their first year of study are eligible for this internship opportunity OR
- Undergraduate: Students should be entering their senior year of undergraduate studies to be eligible for this internship opportunity
- Students should be enrolled in a healthcare or nursing related major: Industrial Engineering, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Policy, Business with a minor in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, other healthcare related major
- Students must be at least 18 years of age and be able to travel to Philadelphia

Expected Responsibilities
- To develop knowledge of and an appreciation for the clinical and the administrative aspects involved in the delivery of high-quality pediatric care.
- To witness the impact of the organization’s commitment to patient-centered and safe patient care.
- To assist on various projects that are of value to the organization and will assist the student in meeting the internship objectives.
- To learn the CHOP Quality Improvement Framework and utilize learnings to facilitate project meetings.
- To create and deliver a final presentation to the PIA Team at the conclusion of the internship experience.
- To gain insight into successful personal, professional, and organizational behavior by observing experienced executives and professionals.
