Basic Function

 

Perform a variety of general labor, maintenance, repair tasks, and clean-up in support of preventative and predictive maintenance as directed by the Lead Maintenance Mechanic. Works with other maintenance mechanics in completing job assignments.

Typical Duties

 

1.  Perform scheduled routine preventative and predictive maintenance functions, including servicing, adjusting, aligning, lubricating, and cleaning.
2.  Provide assistance to other mechanics/staff as needed.
3.  Use testing equipment and power and hand tools to assist in minor structural maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry duties.
4.  Assist in the repair, service, and replacement of routine mechanical components. Assist in performing incinerator, boiler and furnace troubleshooting, tune-ups, cleaning, and repairs.
5.  Purchase repair parts and maintain inventories; deliver maintenance components to all Borough buildings.
6.  Performs routine maintenance of buildings. Clean and organize shop and general facility areas, to include trash and litter. Clean clogged toilets and drains.
7.  Performs heavy manual work as assigned for extended periods, sometimes under adverse weather conditions.

Position Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment.
2.  Two (2) years professional work experience performing routine/general building maintenance and/or construction, performing structural repair, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical maintenance.
3.  Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.  Knowledge of common construction tools and materials.
2.  Knowledge and proper safe use of testing equipment and power and hand tools used in performing plumbing, electrical, and carpentry duties.
3.  Ability to understand and execute oral or written instructions; ability to complete written documentation of all work performed in a timely and accurate manner.
OTHER
1.  This position requires a criminal background investigation.
2.  A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.
3.  Ability to wear a respirator and pass a medical physical.

JOB CONTACTS:
Frequent interdepartmental business contact; frequent routine public contact, and frequent contact involving outside organizations/agencies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
Does not supervise; experiences mostly routine problems daily with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness, or mistaken judgment require significant effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Performs duties in a variety of conditions, generally unpleasant areas with undesirable elements or factors on a somewhat continuous basis; major accident/hazard risk; requires sustained periods of heavy lifting, crouching, stooping or stretching (50+ lbs.).
This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
