Barn Manager
The Barn Manager ensures delivery of a successful equestrian program that provides a quality, creative, challenging, and progressive riding program to campers. The Barn Manager ensures that all horses are taken care of, with the appropriate daily use, feed schedules and medication dosages.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and implements the equestrian program, including riding lessons, equine care, and barn management.
- Maintains awareness of camper and staff behavior always, enforcing safety regulations and procedures.
- Assesses rider ability using CHA guidelines to determine riding level. Assesses soundness and riding level of horses.
- Trains and supervises Riding Instructors and Equestrian Counselors.
- Performs daily care of horses and coordinates care with staff, veterinarian, and vendor.
- Manages the herd including feeding, watering, grooming, medication, and exercise when appropriate.
- Maintains all horse records and medical reports, including recommendations.
- Cleans the barn and all tack and barn equipment.
- Participates in all-camp activities such as campfires, flag ceremonies, and programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Able to walk and stand for long periods of time on walkways and trails that may be uneven.
- Able to carry, lift, push, pull, or otherwise move heavy objects, supplies, or luggage.
- Able to recognize, respond to and care for visible and verbal signs of children’s and horse’s distress.
- Able to share living space with others and eat meals in a large, noisy environment.
- Able to address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced, interactive environment.
- Emotionally resilient and capable of appropriate and sustained mental, emotional and social interactions in a constantly changing, youth-centered and community living setting.
