Engineering Intern
The Eaton County Road Commission is seeking students to fill Engineering Intern and Co-op positions for the 2026 construction season. The Eaton County Road Commission is located in Charlotte, Michigan, which is only 30 minutes from MSU campus. This is an excellent location for students with leases through the summer!
During the 2026 construction season, the Engineering Department at the Eaton County Road Commission will administer a federally funded road rehabilitation project with a total cost of $1.2 million, about $6 million of road rehabilitation and resurfacing, a $3 million project that will mitigate a road settlement through a swamp, and a bridge rehabilitation project. In addition to these projects, we will re-gravel and apply dust control on existing gravel roads, perform data collection, and collect topographical survey for future projects.
To administer these projects, students perform a variety of construction inspection, surveying, and engineering related tasks including on-site inspection, preparing daily reports, generating pay estimates, surveying using GNSS and total station, collecting GIS field data, placing and collecting traffic counters, mapping, utilize CAD, as well as many other engineering related tasks. Students can expect to work with other inspectors, engineers, and contractors in the field.
This position is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable field experience working hands-on as they are exposed to a variety of Civil Engineering related projects.
