The Oklahoma City Police Department is now hiring for the position of Police Recruit for our 155th Police Academy, set to begin September 23, 2026! No prior experience required. Accepting applications now through May 2026.

Starting Pay
- Basic Recruit Pay: $66,252.24 + Benefits
- Lateral Recruit Pay: $70,094.16 + Benefits (Must have 2 years of prior LE experience & must attend a full 28-week academy)

Basic Requirements:
- 21-45yoa (can apply at 20, must be 21 on/around the first day of the academy)
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a high school diploma/GED
- Must pass Physical Abilities Test/Written Test
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for 2 years
- Stable employment/credit history
- Good moral character
- Suitable emotional stability
- Tattoo Policy: No tattoos on hands (other than one “ring” tattoo on ring finger), face, or neck; forearm tattoos must be able to be covered by the applicant’s hand (one per arm) OR applicant can wear a flesh-colored compression sleeve or long sleeves to cover (if content is not considered offensive/graphic).
Academy
- All Recruits (regardless of prior experience) are required to attend our full 28-week academy
- Monday-Friday, 7a-4p
- The academy is non-residential (you live at home and have most evenings and all weekends off during the academy)
- No prior experience required, and all equipment provided
- Field Training follows the academy and lasts approximately 4-6 months
- Starting pay is $66,252 from academy through probation plus benefits, retirement, tuition reimbursement, college degree incentives, bilingual pay and more! Step raises and longevity kick in after probation.
Post-Academy
- Take-home vehicle program available once off probation (must live in OKC or w/in 25 miles of Headquarters if outside of OKC)
- Uniform allowance of almost $1,000 annually
- Paid leave (sick, vacation, holiday)
- 8 days on / 6 days off schedule (8 10-hour shifts); every other week/weekend off (overlap days are Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday)
- Monthly issued ammunition for training
- Plenty of non-mandatory overtime opportunities
- Extra job opportunities available; some (not limited to) include: security for The OKC Thunder, OKC Comets, Paycom, etc.
- OKCPD Units: Air Support Unit, K9, Tactical Team, Bomb Squad, Drone Unit, School Resource Officers, Honor Guard, Bricktown Bike Patrol, Lake Patrol, Officer Wellness Unit, Criminal Interdiction Team, Criminal Intelligence, Violent Crimes Intelligence, Violent Crimes Apprehension Team, Investigations (100+ detectives assigned to 12 Units), Traffic Safety Unit , Narcotics Investigations, Street Narcotics Unit, Motorcycle Unit, VICE Enforcement, Bilingual Team, Crisis Negotiators, Emergency Response Team, Urban Search and Rescue Team, and cross-deputization/task force opportunities available with multiple Federal & State Agencies (US Marshals, FBI, ATF, Secret Service, DEA, OBN, OAG) - and more!
