Please note: this is not an on-campus job opportunity. This position involves interning with the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station and following their guidelines for work location. Funding for this program is provided through FAU's School of Environmental, Coastal and Ocean Sustainability (WLW-ECOS).

Pelican Harbor Seabird Station is Miami’s premier native wildlife hospital evolving into a world-class wildlife rescue, rehab, release, and education center. We offer a unique internship opportunity that allows students to receive hands-on experience in the operations & daily care of patients in a high-volume wildlife hospital.
Internship Description:
A PHSS intern is ideally an individual who wants to learn about all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation and is for those interested in a career in wildlife/veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, zookeeping, or environmental education.
Our program is hands-on; interns learn and will perform many aspects of rehabilitative care. They will have the opportunity to learn proper handling & restraint techniques of various taxa, administration of fluids, calculation/administration of medications, medication usage/prescription, perform various feeding techniques, assist in surgeries and other medical procedures, maintain patient records, and much more.
Qualifications: Students applying for this internship that would be strong candidates are those that are responsible, able to work in a fast-paced environment, self-starters and efficient in time management. Prior clinical experience/knowledge is a plus but not required. Must be available to start in February 2026.
Eligibility
Conditions of eligibility for the FAU WLW-ECOS paid internships:
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must be a Junior or Senior enrolled in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
- Must be degree-seeking at least half time during the semester of the internship.
- Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week (or more with proper authorization).
- Must be at least 18 years of age or have provided the FAU Career Center with a signed document from your guardian allowing participation in an internship.
Please note: Students selected for this internship, must register their internship for 0 credit or academic credit with Florida Atlantic University.
