Collections Registration Intern
The Registration Department at the Peabody Essex Museum has an exciting opportunity to join the Collections Registration team as an intern. Collections Registrars oversee a wide range of activities surrounding the museum's collections including incoming acquisitions, collection information and digital asset management, outgoing loans from the collection, fine arts insurance, rights and reproductions, and other initiatives that support the care and management of the museum's collections.
The Collections Registration Intern will have a unique opportunity to learn about and gain experience working directly with the museum's diverse collections. This includes the processing of accessioned artwork; learning about collection documentation standards and working directly in the collection management database (MuseumPlus) and the digital asset management system (Piction); participating in collection inventories; and learning best practices in art handling.
Internship Qualifications:
Students working towards a Museum Studies, Library Science, Art, Art History, or related degree are encouraged to apply. Interest in museum collections and registration work or a related field. Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and discretion when working with sensitive and confidential materials. Successful candidates must be adept at Microsoft Office and the Adobe Suite. Additional experience or knowledge of working with a museum collections database is a plus.
Please note that this position is in Rowley, MA, and reliable transportation is required.
The Spring Internship Program will run from January 22 to April 27, 2026, or an agreed upon end date with the hiring manager. A mandatory in-person orientation will be held at the museum on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Interns are also required to participate in professional development sessions, typically held on Thursdays through April 16th. Please note that session times are subject to change, and some sessions may be conducted in a hybrid format.
This internship provides a $2,000 stipend and requires the completion of 180 hours, which includes participation in professional development programming. This equates to approximately 15 onsite hours per week over the course of twelve weeks. All internships are fully in person and take place on site.
