Summary
A teacher at Kieve Wavus Education’s The Leadership School (TLS) must demonstrate mastery of our curriculum, programs, and a deep commitment to our mission. They are the model for our fellows and serve as an extension of the TLS leadership team. They expertly teach and facilitate for any group, living our mission to empower others. They are professional and collegial, proactively sharing their knowledge with co-workers, visiting school staff, and their students. They always look for ways to improve and openly share feedback with our directors and staff. Our teachers are key facilitators for KWE Events, which range from corporate retreats to therapeutic camps.
Qualifications
Ten years of teaching experience preferred; five years required. Bachelor’s degree required. Ability to master our curriculum, teach anyone, and facilitate our challenge courses. Proven leadership and mentorship skills and can constructively give and receive feedback. An excellent listener, collaborator, and communicator. High degree of integrity and can maintain confidentiality. Understands that KWE is a non-profit and that all employees will periodically be asked to complete duties to advance its mission above and beyond their primary responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Master every level of our experiential approach to social-emotional learning (EASEL) and environmental stewardship curricula, and be a resource and guide to any of our educators.
- Lead by example in all aspects of TLS, KWE Event, and summer camp facilitation.
- Teach in TLS classrooms and co-teach with fellows; cabin educate when needed.
- Be present at TLS afternoon activities and all meals during TLS residential programs.
- Support the facilitation and planning of all staff training and professional development.
- Lead, facilitate, or support multiple KWE Events throughout the year.
- Secure an internal Level 1 challenge course certification; Level 2 preferred.
- Serve as an Educator in Residence (EIR) for the winter term.
- Provide formal and informal mentorship of fellows.
- Live on campus to support TLS programs, KWE Events, and summer camp as needed.
- Be a positive, visible presence on campus and in the community.
- Volunteer to support our community engagement efforts as much as possible.
- Support other KWE departments as needed, modeling teamwork to support the mission.
- Help lead summer camp in whatever capacity is needed.
- Proactively help recruit excellent TLS and summer camp staff.
- Represent KWE at professional and hiring conferences and networking events.
- Prioritize ongoing professional development to improve and grow.
- Help execute risk management projects that are relevant to the success of our programs.
