Juvenile Court Caseworker/ Deputy Juvenile Officer - Abuse & Neglect

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to provide team-oriented case management to referrals the supervision of the Greene County Juvenile Court. This position will be challenged to understand due process and court procedures, while balancing current trends and evidence-informed practices in juvenile justice and child welfare. Individuals selected for this role will fall under the case management department of the Greene County Juvenile Office and could be assigned cases in Law and Status, Diversion, and Abuse and Neglect Units. The initial primary placement of this role will be in the Abuse and Neglect Unit

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assists in the preparation of petitions, motions, summons, subpoenas, court orders, investigative reports, dispositions and summaries for Court hearings, and other court documents as needed.

Prepares and presents cases for Greene County and the State of Missouri in court. Provide oral and/or written recommendations to the court.

Maintains confidential case records in all assigned cases. 

Prepares and arranges dispositional review hearings and other hearings on formal cases. 

Conducts investigations in cooperation with the Missouri Children’s Division and law enforcement agencies when needed. Determines whether to file formal petitions to remove the child from home due to abuse or neglect.

Attends and participates in staffing meetings and hearings related to each case.

Makes decisions regarding resolution of abuse/neglect cases.

Participates in training others and attends training. Maintains knowledge of changes in statutes and court rules and juvenile office performance standards.

Obtains, examines and presents treatment plans.

Practices mediation and control of clients.

Responds to questions and complaints from the public.   

Attends staff meetings.

Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of Greene County Family/Juvenile Court.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions           

Bachelor degree or higher in criminal justice, education, psychology, social work, or closely related social sciences required and related experience dealing with juveniles.

Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s license is required and an acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete a background investigation.  Any person functioning in this position is required to pass an initial and continued random urinalysis test for the use of controlled substances.
