We're seeking a journalism or communications student to help develop an educator training course focused on cultural and linguistic responsiveness for educators. You'll develop your interview, research, and narrative skills while working on content that will help teachers better support multilingual learners.
Your Role
As our Interview Lead, you'll gain hands-on experience in professional interviewing, source development, and content curation:
- Source Identification & Outreach: Research and identify high-profile academics, community leaders from immigrant advocacy organizations, and DOE officials; develop professional pitch emails and conduct outreach
- Interview Development: Create structured interview protocols and question guides designed to elicit compelling, educational content about cultural responsiveness and multilingual education
- Stakeholder Communication: Correspond with university continuing education departments and the DOE Office of Multilingual Learners to understand professional development needs
- Content Curation: Conduct interviews (recorded for course use) and organize findings into narrative structures suitable for teacher professional development modules
- Documentation: Create interview summaries, extract key quotes and insights, and help shape course content based on expert perspectives

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled student in journalism, communications, media studies, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in educational equity, immigration, or multilingual communities
- Comfortable reaching out to professionals and conducting interviews
- Organized and detail-oriented with good follow-through
- Experience with recording/transcription tools is a plus
- Familiarity with diverse communities is helpful but not required
Internship Details
This is an unpaid educational internship designed primarily for student learning and skill development. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue academic credit through their institution. The internship complies with FLSA guidelines: it does not displace paid employees, provides educational training similar to an academic environment, and carries no guarantee of future paid employment. Future paid opportunities depend solely on securing grant funding and/or successful contracts.
