Compensation: $16.75 per hour
Position Start Date: 10/27/25
Position End Date: September 12, 2026 (with the option to continue during the school year for current students)
Eligibility: Open to current and graduating UC Davis students
Job Summary
UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) International Access Programs (IAP) provide international students and professionals with opportunities to study at UC Davis, improve their English skills, and gain academic or professional experience in the U.S. These programs include academic coursework, English language training, cultural immersion, and professional development, helping participants enhance their global competencies and career prospects.
The Global Study Program is seeking a Student Assistant (SA) to create, support and lead program activities, by facilitating events, engaging with students, informing them of campus resources, and provide office support to ensure the efficient implementation of programs and provide an enriching and positive experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Activity Leadership & Student Engagement
- Lead, plan, and participate in activities, orientations, and events for international students
- Communicate effectively in English to help international students engage in activities and improve their language skills.
- Assist with classroom conversation sessions to support students’ English development.
- Act as a mentor by helping international students adjust to American culture and advise them on campus resources.
- Encourage interaction among students.
- Contribute content to Global Study Program social media and the Homebase platform.
Event & Program Support
- Represent Global Study program and serve as a point of contact between students and campus, community, and commercial organizations.
- Set up and clean up for social events, including decorations, refreshments, tables, and chairs.
- Assist with student orientation sessions.
- Transport students and event materials as needed.
- Set up and test audio-visual equipment for activities and events.
- Help maintain activity spaces by cleaning and resetting furniture as needed.
- Prepare flyers, posters, PowerPoint, for orientations and seminars
- Create content for Instagram and the Homebase platform
Administrative & Other Duties
- Provide general administrative support for program operations.
- Maintain communication with supervisors and update availability as required.
- Be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in English.
- Ability to engage with diverse students from various cultural backgrounds, including international students and high school participants.
- Excellent customer service skills and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership and teamwork experience are preferred.
- A driver’s license preferred but not required.
- Experience with CANVA, PowerPoint or Google Slides or willingness to learn.
- Experience with content creation for social media or willingness to learn.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a background check.
- Completion of CANRA training (California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
- First Aid/CPR certification (can be completed after hiring).
Work Schedule
- During summer, students can work up to 40 hours per week.
- Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate summer session classes.
