Undergraduate Lab Assistant: Cellular Biochemistry Lab

The Cellular Biochemistry Lab at Oakland University is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our team as a Lab Assistant.  This position has a variety of duties relevant to the research lab, including (but not limited to):  assisting with ongoing research projects and lab maintenance tasks.  The research assistant will gain hands-on experience in biology lab work, including microbiological, biochemical, molecular, and cell biological techniques.  Applicants are not required to have a Federal work Study (FWS) award to apply for this position.  If you do have a FWS award, then please indicate that on your application.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintain lab cleanliness and organization.

Wash dishes and sterilize materials (autoclaving).

Prepare buffers, media, reagents, and other materials for experiments.

Assist with general laboratory procedures which may include:  yeast cell culture, yeast strain construction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, and western blotting (training will be provided).

Support graduate students and the PI in routine laboratory experiments.                             

 

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a biology, biomedical sciences, or biochemistry major.

Previous lab experience (including lab course-related experience) in biology and/or biochemistry is a plus but not required.

Willingness to work in a wet lab biomedical research environment.

Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
