Agriculture Operations Manager

The City of Pinellas Park is looking for an Agriculture Operations Manager to oversee the operations, staff, and development of the City's Patti Johnson Farm.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under limited supervision, manages and oversees daily operations, supervises staff, and leads the development and maintenance of the Patti Johnson Farm.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in managing diverse farming operations, including both crop production and animal care. 
  • Extensive knowledge of sustainable and organic farming practices. 
  • Proven experience in staff management, budget administration, and program development. 
  • Additional certifications may also be required. 
  • Requires a valid Florida driver license.
  • Work involves continuous standing, walking, or difficult working positions. 
  • May frequently lift objects weighing over 50 pounds. 
  • Duties are regularly performed both inside and outside which involves exposure to loud noises, various weather conditions (heat, cold, thunderstorms, etc.), allergens, and animal waste. 
  • Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, or weekends. At times, requires driving to locations within the City, County, and Tampa Bay region. 
  • Must have working knowledge and ability in operating farm equipment.

 

EXAMPLES OF TASKS:

  • Oversees all daily farm operations, including planting, cultivation, and harvesting of crops; animal husbandry, including livestock management and animal welfare; and maintenance of all farm infrastructure, including animal habitats, the gardens, educational barn, farmhouse, and pond. 
  • Ensures the farm is well-maintained, safe, and clean for staff, volunteers, animals, and the public. Monitors and ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and City policies and procedures, reviewing and updating when necessary. 
  • In collaboration with administration, assists with the development and implementation of a long-term vision for the farm, focusing on sustainable practices, community resource development, and educational programming. 
  • This includes creating crop plans, managing livestock programs, and identifying opportunities for local partnerships, serving as a passionate advocate for the farm in the community.
  • Assists in preparing the farm’s annual operating budget and manages the budget by tracking expenses, and overseeing the procurement of supplies and equipment, including needs for the annual capital improvement program. 
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, evaluates, and leads a team of full-time and part-time staff and a dedicated volunteer corps. 
  • Prepares work schedules and payroll documents. 
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes education and professional growth. 
  • Serves as a member of high performing cross-functional work team and assists with, or assumes responsibilities as needed in all other areas of the Leisure Services Department.
