Laboratory Animal Resources has an immediate opening for one or more Livestock Animal Care Technicians. This position provides care to livestock on the south campus including horses, sheep, goats, camelids, and cattle. Livestock Animal Care Techs will also provide care to indoor housed research animals including dogs.  Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, approximately 4-6 hours both days. Weekday hours will include some morning shifts starting at 6:00 am, with the exact hours being flexible based upon your class schedule. This position is on-going, and we hope to hire students that will remain with us until they graduate. You will gain a considerable amount of animal handling experience in this role.

Job duties/ responsibilities:

·         Observe animals and their environment daily and report abnormalities V/ WC

·         Drive a truck to load and move bedding and hay, feed animals CD

·         Clean pastures, sheds, and barns TW

·         Administer medical treatments to animals CD

·         Complete paperwork such as daily task checklists and medical records V/ WC

·         Work independently and efficiently CT/ PS

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle background check
  • Previous livestock experience. You will not be considered if this isn’t demonstrated on your resume.
  • Ability to work during class breaks (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, bending, standing, kneeling
  • At least 2 semesters of time remaining with CSU
