Summer Camp Lifeguard

Position Title: Lifeguard
Location: 4651 Co Rd ZZ, Dodgeville, WI

Employment Type: Seasonal / Full-Time (June 1-August 14, 2026) 

 

Overview

The Lifeguard ensures the safety of all campers and staff during waterfront activities, including swimming, canoeing, and river trips. This role requires vigilance, quick decision-making, and a strong commitment to safety, while also helping campers have fun and build confidence in and around the water. The ideal candidate is outgoing, attentive, and enthusiastic about supporting outdoor recreation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Water Safety & Supervision.
    • Enforce all safety rules and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.
    • Monitor campers and staff at the lake, river or pool.
    • Respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies, including performing rescues and administering first aid as needed.
       
  • Instruction & Support
    • Assist campers in developing swimming, paddling, and water safety skills.
    • Encourage participation and build confidence in water-based activities.
       
  • Equipment & Logistics
    • Inspect and maintain watercraft, life jackets, and other safety equipment.
    • Assist with setup and cleanup of waterfront areas and activity equipment.
       
  • Team Collaboration & Flexibility
    • Work closely with senior counselors, Program Coordinators, and other staff to ensure safe, smooth operations.
    • Support camp operations with other duties as needed.

       

Qualifications

  • 18+ Years of Age
  • Current lifeguard certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong swimming skills and experience supervising children or youth.
  • Ability to stay alert and focused during long periods of supervision.
  • Comfortable working long days outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to pitch in wherever needed - whether that means helping in the kitchen, cleaning facilities, or solving unexpected challenges to keep camp running smoothly.
  • Respect for diverse perspectives on faith, identity, relationships, and the natural world
  • Energetic, responsible, and able to respond quickly in emergencies.

  • Salary starting at $375 per week (based on experience), plus free housing & meals
