Student Assistant - Hearst Castle Museum Assistant (San Simeon)
Description:
The California Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking to hire two student assistants. Under the supervision of Hearst Castle’s Museum Director, and working directly with the Grounds Supervisor II, Curator I, and Guide Supervisors, the Student Assistant will participate in Hearst Castle’s Internship Program and support the implementation of the Castle’s mission and strategic plan priorities.
The reporting location for the Student Assistant will be 750 Hearst Castle Road, San Simeon, CA 93452.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Commission staff.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in working with the public.
- Interest working and learning about California Historical Sites.
- Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Please note that prior to appointment, individuals claiming preference under one of these categories will be required to furnish documentation establishing their eligibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Working in the Guide Department to lead tours and interpret the Castle’s collections.
- Historic landscape care: Assisting the Grounds Department to learn techniques to maintain and care for the historic landscape and gardens.
- Collections management: Learning to care for museum objects with the Collections Management Department.
