Engineering Career Peer – Job Description

Engineering Career Peers (CPs) are paid student employees within Engineering Career Services (ECS) who support fellow students in developing career readiness skills. CPs facilitate one-on-one career services and assist ECS staff with workshops, programs, and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct one-on-one resume reviews, cover letter reviews, elevator pitch coaching, and interview preparation
  • Help students navigate career resources including Handshake, ECS guides, and job/internship search tools
  • Advise students in early stages of career planning and exploration
  • Promote ECS services and events to students, departments, and organizations
  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new Career Peers
  • Attend mandatory biweekly staff meetings

Training & Start Dates: Selected applicants must complete an 8-week, 1-credit hour training course during the second half of the Spring 2026 semester. Paid work begins in Fall 2026. For more information, check out this video info-session: https://mediaspace.illinois.edu/media/t/1_u1g09g9h

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sophomore or above in an Engineering or CS+X undergraduate major
  • Available for Spring 2026 second 8-week training course
  • Available to work ~ 6 hours/week during Fall 2025
  • Experience working with the public (e.g., work, volunteer, extracurricular activities)
