Job Description
Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional SPECIAL EDUCATION PRE-KINDERGARTEN LEA TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. The Rhode Island Right to Read Act was passed in July of 2019 and requires educators to exhibit either proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Please be advised that this position requires Structured Literacy Proficiency Level within one year of hire.
Job Goal:
To Provide school-based support for implementation of the RI Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities and of the district academic and behavioral interventions and to increase student achievement by enhanced instructional delivery and job embedded staff development.
Job Specification:
The position requires a Pre-kindergarten Special Education LEA Teacher to work with classroom teachers, assisting them with the full implementation of the district’s initiatives as it pertains to students with disabilities and IEP development. The position entails providing school based support to pre-kindergarten teachers and students, providing on site and district level professional development on IEP development, differentiating instruction, behavior interventions,data analysis for improved student achievement and the implementation of RI Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities ensuring that the appropriate supports for teachers and students are in place.
Knowledge and implementation of academic assessments, progress monitoring tools in order to complete a comprehensive evaluation that diagnostically meet the needs of our students. Knowledge of response to intervention as well as current research-based strategies and interventions as they relate to both academic and behavioral needs. The Pre-kindergarten Special Education LEA Teacher will be under the immediate supervision of the Office of Specialized Instruction & Exceptional Student Services and Pre-kindergarten Program Manager.
Assignments will be based on district and school needs.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance for the purpose of enabling teachers to improve their practice.
- Knowledge of reading and behavioral interventions
- Knowledge of “teacher as coach practices” (e.g. demonstration lessons, observations, communication skills)
- Knowledge of RI Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of differentiating instruction and Response to Intervention process.
- Conduct and/or attend professional development sessions after school and during the summer.
- Knowledge of Common Core and Essential Elements as pertinent to level.
- Knowledge of Implementation and analysis of District assessment tools
- Knowledge of PBIS and its implementation
- You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
- Specific training in the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with school and district level staff to continuously improve the academic achievement of students with disabilities.
- Design and deliver research based professional development for pre-kindergarten teachers in Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), Teaching Strategies Gold, Creative Curriculum, Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards, IEP development, progress monitoring/data collection and the implementation of the RI regulations governing students with disabilities.
- Assist teachers in the preparation, planning, and writing of pre-kindergarten IEPs and IEPs for students transitioning to kindergarten that best meet the needs of student.
- Conduct student assessments that provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of student strengths and needs.
- Interpret and analyze data to complete intervention plans and individualized educational planning and development.
- Assist teachers with the implementation of response to Intervention framework.
- Attend professional development and specified training to enhance skills.
- Work collaboratively with community and social service agencies to enhance student learning and transition to school.
- Assist teachers in differentiating instruction and planning lessons when appropriate as well as developing daily schedules/routines.
- Support teams in developing procedures for special education related areas including, but not limited to manifestations, new referrals, re-evaluations, etc.
- Manage files and input IEP and evaluation compliance information into the district’s computer management system.
- Monitor compliance and report any issues or concerns to the direct supervisor.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by the special education supervisor/administrator.
- Pre-kindergarten Special Education LEA will report directly to the Pre-kindergarten Program Manager.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $47,279 to $89,118 Per Year
