Entry Level Staff Accountant

American Association of School Administrators Inc. d/b/a AASA, The School Superintendents Association, is searching for an entry-level staff accountant to join our talented team, a new college graduate, or a college student graduating in December 2025. This key member of the accounting team will assist in the preparation and maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash processing, preparation of financial reports and development of internal financial performance metrics to staff. In addition, this individual assists with the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. This position will need to be in the office two to three days a week, but can work remotely the balance of the time.

The starting salary will be between $60,000 and $65,000 annually.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Prepares Journal Entries and Completes Account Reconciliation of Key Balance Sheet Accounts

· Prepares weekly miscellaneous cash receipts entries.

· Prepares and posts journal entries into Microsoft Dynamics.

· Assists in weekly invoice entry into Microsoft Dynamics and reviews them.

· Monitors daily bank account and PayPal transactions and prepares the related entries.

· Monitors staff credit card balances and reconciliations.

· Completes ad hoc vendor applications.

· Responds to internal and external requests for financial information.


 

Performs General Accounting Duties

· Assists with the annual audit and Form 990 by preparing lead schedules, reconciliations, analytics and ad hoc audit requests as needed.

· Assists with monthly general ledger account reconciliations including cash, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable.

· Assists with the annual budget including the preparation and submission of department templates as well as loading the final approved budget into Microsoft Dynamics.

· Assists with maintaining accounting department records and files.

· Assists with monthly budget to actual reconciliations.

· Uploads annual budget files to Microsoft Dynamics.

· Provides input on areas where efficiencies can be found and ideas on working in a virtual environment.Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required.


 

Experience: Zero to two years of accounting experience required, preferably in an association or other non-profit organization. Public sector budget experience is a plus.


 

Skills: Must have good written and oral communication skills; be detail-oriented; and ability to prioritize tasks as needed.


 

Physical Demands: Regular use of laptop computers and desktop monitors is common. Travel may be required and longer than normal hours of work at meetings and conferences may be expected.
