Job Description:

Internship program: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026 

Pay rate is $35/hour for law student 

 

Full-time; 37.5 hours per week 

 

ABA’s Internship provides students with a paid opportunity to work with one of the biggest trade associations in Washington, DC. This extremely selective opportunity provides students with the opportunity to do substantial work in various divisions across ABA, connect with leadership, build a network, and make a difference. 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

Intellectual property support: Prepare trademark and copyright applications; review and catalog copyright certificates and accompanying artifacts; and review software and IP licenses. 50% of time 

Review ABA contractual documents. Conduct legal sufficiency review of small dollar (under $5,000) contracts, statements of work, master service agreements, non-disclosure agreements and amendments. 10% of time 

Provide research and writing support for The Docket. Conduct legal research of monthly federal, state and regulatory actions for summarization and inclusion in monthly publication for legal community dissemination. 10% of time. 

Policy development research and drafting. Conduct legal research in support of proposed policies and prepare drafts of said documents. 15% of time. 

State legislative monitoring.  Assist professional staff in state legislative monitoring efforts, including proposed legislative and regulatory actions. Further assist in the preparation of briefings, charts and white papers, as needed. 15% of time. 

 

Required Skills  

Enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school 

Experience providing administrative support 

Experience working in and around databases 

Strong ability to provide customer service support 

Familiarity with Microsoft 365

Excellent organizational and written communication skills

Intellectual property and/or contracts experience is a plus

Ability to report into ABA headquarters located in Washington, DC, at least two-times per week (relocation assistance or stipend is not included for the intern program). Internship positions are not eligible for healthcare insurance coverage. 

 

Minimum Education Requirements  

Major Field of Study: Law Student
