MPA Graduate Assistant
Graduate Research Assistants(RAs) are selected for excellence in scholarship and potential as researchers. Graduate Research Assistants provide approximately 20 hours of service per week, over the course of a semester and under the supervision of faculty members. Research activities should relate directly to the student’s degree requirements and should be reasonably expected to contribute to the student’s academic program. You should not consider that all Research is done in a lab.
- Meet regularly with MPA Director and program manager to determine program priorities.
- Support MPA faculty with research assistance, as necessary.
- Act as a representative of the MPA program at graduate fairs, community engagement meetings, and events throughout the year, as needed.
- Each semester - meet with program director and manager to plan MPA communications. Collect data/information, write articles and publish a fall and a winter newsletter.
- Assist with other activities as needed.
Qualifications:
MPA Graduate Assistant must be fully admitted to the MPA program and enrolled for at least 8 credits for the academic year. Graduate course work and/or research will contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).
- Excellent organizational skills. Prefer background in data analysis. Comfortable working with Excel/Access
- Excellent communications skills, especially writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Tuition:
Tuition (eight credits per semester or a total of 16 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student. Note: The contract length is for fall and winter semester only. Summer semesters are not included.
Compensation:
Student will receive a pay check (via direct deposit) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.
