Trainer And Navigator

 

Trainer & Employment Navigator- Youth Program

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a dual position involving training and employment navigation.  This role will be the point of contact for the team of Youth Employment Counselors to refer clients to for job readiness, career/education exploration and career exposure opportunities. The training aspect of this role will include providing group and/or 1:1 instruction on topics like career exploration, job seeking skills and connecting with education providers.  The employment navigator aspect of this role will involve engaging local employers to better understand their needs and hiring practices to inform instruction, helping students/job seeker secure personalized job shadow opportunities, career exposure, volunteer, paid internship, or direct employment in their field of interest.  In order to successfully fulfill this dual position, this role must build and maintain strong relationships with program participants, staff, employers, and community partners. This person must have/develop strong knowledge of career pathways, labor market trends/demands, career assessment explorations and workforce development. Program goals and structures change frequently – with corresponding changes in job duties during the funding year. Effective, clear and proactive communication is required as is ongoing flexibility in sharing and adapting roles as program needs arise.   

 

Position Requirements 

  • 2-year preferred but will accept successful experience delivering training to youth and/or doing community outreach/recruitment
  • Skill in written and oral communication 
  • Ability to work effectively with others 
  • Skill in teaching/coaching techniques 
  • Efficient organizational and planning skills 
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritize work 
  • Ability and willingness to respond constructively to rapid change 
  • Ability to lead by example and to mentor and guide others 
  • Computer proficiency (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases) 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, or access to reliable transportation.        
  • Must be flexible with travel within the metro area and able to move between Hired offices.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Outreach & Recruitment

  • Recruit class participants from appropriate sources for class sessions, directly and as part of a team
  • Participate in development of recruiting materials 
  • Ensure eligibility of referred participants through formal and informal inquiry and screening
  • Complete enrollment paperwork per program requirements 
  • Conduct or assist in conducting formal enrollment sessions 
  • Conduct or assist in conducting group or one-on-one program information/overviews for potential clients

 Assessment/Enrollment

  • Conduct appropriate classroom assessments needed for programming and placement
  • Conduct ongoing informal assessments of student progress during and at the end of teaching segments to ensure accurate tracking of student learning, strengths, and areas for growth
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of potential client placement with employment, training, and job shadow/work experience. 
  • Assess and evaluate participant’s physical, social, vocational, educational and employment situation to determine client strengths and identify barriers
  • Administer appropriate assessment and screening tools per program requirements or guidelines

 Delivery of Training and Manage Classroom Environment

  • Under supervision of Program Director adapt curriculum and/or daily lesson plans to meet the needs of program participants, delivering materials in a meaningful way
  • Maintain learning progress to ensure all topics are covered within the class timeframe  
  • Provide individualized, small group and large group instruction attuned to the needs of adult non-formal learners (high participation, task/project with direct application to learning goals).
  • Adapt teaching style/techniques to accommodate individual learning needs or situations. 
  • Assist participants to define and achieve appropriate occupational goals.
  • Engage appropriate community resources to improve programming and outcomes
  • Work with other trainers within Hired to improve training curricula, delivery, and assessment methods to improve training programming at Hired.
  • Demonstrate substantial mastery of MS Office programs and excellent presentation skills, 
  • Maintain a safe, positive, rigorous classroom-learning environment. 
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport with and between participants. 
  • Establish a culture for learning. 
  • Manage classroom procedures (including attendance/punctuality) and student behavior

 Case Management

  • In consultation with client, develop reasonable, realistic short term and long-term goals 
  • Develop an appropriate plan with specific timelines and measurable goals
  • Provide ongoing coaching and employment counseling 
  • Collaborate with referring employment counselors and businesses on behalf of clients
  • Maintain case files and case file documentation inclusive of but not exclusive of the following (per program requirements):
  • Eligibility verification/identification
  • Support services
  • Regular, ongoing case noting 
  • Community and Employer Development
  • Recruit employers to participate in program activities and hire program participants for internships, volunteer and/or direct employment    
  • Maintain contact and positive relationships with referring agencies.   This includes monthly formal reports, regular recruiting visits and responding to information requests as needed   
  • Participate in the development of program flyers for employers, referring counselors or job seekers
  • Communicate and document employer contacts and positions developed as they occur into relevant program systems

Data Management

  • Utilize required databases to enter and track participants through the program
  • Perform computerized data entry per program requirements inclusive of but not exclusive of (funder) Workforce One tracking and case noting, (internal) data entry, Excel, and program specific reports for managers and referring counselors
  • Respond to requests for report and case file reconciliation in a timely manner and take appropriate action
  • Monitor and report on client progress
  • Maintain compliance with program contract requirements and program policies 
  • Maintain client confidentiality, adhere to Federal Data Privacy laws

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC:

  • Keep abreast of county, state, and federal program policies. Maintain high level of skill and expertise through professional development and continuing education.
  • Collaborate with other agencies for program activities.
  • Maintain awareness of current labor market information.
  • Meet all program goals as outlined in contract
  • Fulfill obligations as mandated reporter.
