Data Engineer Co-op (Hybrid)
PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure future electric.
The position is for PJM’s overall Data and Analytics efforts which are managed between the Corporate Data Management Department and Analytics Support departments. Corporate
Data Management is responsible for PJM’s overall Data Governance and Master Data Management efforts. Analytics Support is responsible for assisting with, building tools for and guiding analytics effort through PJM.
This position allows students to learn the basic concepts of data engineering and work in a team with senior data engineers to further PJM's Data and Analytics efforts that increase
the capabilities for advanced analytics, AI and machine learning. Students will work with technology such as Databricks, Azure Purview, Azure Data Factory and data quality tools to
create and manage data pipelines, manage metadata, ensure high quality data and create visualizations.
Job Responsibilities:
· Assist analytics support leads with capturing business requirements and developing use case solutions
· Integrate internal business data and refine visuals / metrics for D&A dashboard
· Assist senior data engineers in creating data pipelines to load data from source data sources to PJM’s Data lake
· Learn and implement data engineering standards and practices in work products
· Research and assist with new features of tools like Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Data Governance tools
· Use software to interrogate data sets for analysis
· Learn to analyze system performance data and help troubleshoot issues
· Assist Data Governance staff in performing root cause analysis on data anomalies and work on resolutions
· Work with stakeholders to understand and document requirements
Required and Experience:
· Self-motivated and the ability to work independently
· Able to translate business requirements into technical specifications
· Willingness to learn new concepts and grow technical skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
· Some knowledge of Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau or similar tools
· Some experience in data analysis
· Some experience in data modeling and ETL concepts
