Engineering Technician, Engineer I or Senior Engineer

What You'll Be Doing
This position requires a range of technical engineering work within the Department of Community Development (Engineering Division) with a primary function of examining and providing engineering review comments and potential solution-oriented engineered design options for private sector Land Development Applications as well as Town-initiated Capital Project applications to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Town development ordinances. Work involves reviewing engineering and construction plans, plats, and other land development documents for compliance with codes, regulations and Town standards and coordination with consultants and developers regarding plan approval. This position also assists various Town departments, outside review agencies, architects, developers, engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, and the general public with code compliance pertaining to the development or subdivision of property. The ideal candidate has experience or educational background in civil engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, urban forestry, soil science or land development design and review.

The position level will be determined based on the selected candidate's background and experience.

Required Qualifications

Engineering Technician ($58,823 - $125,681 DOQ)

HS/GED; minimum of two to four years’ experience in civil engineering, landscape architecture and or survey work associated with Land Development projects. Possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Or

Engineer I ($69,377 - $148,229 DOQ)

Graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of two or more years’ experience in design and/or plans review construction of associated with civil engineering work related to land development projects. Possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Or

Senior Engineer ($75,342- $160,975)

Graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. Four to six years’ experience in design and/or plans review associated with civil engineering work related to land development projects. Possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineering Technician: Two or four-year degree related to engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, or related land development field. EIT or LSIT certification. Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI) Designated Plans Examiner Reviewer (DPE) Certification. Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Or

Engineer I: Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineering-In-Training (EIT) Certificate. Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI) Designated Plans Examiner Reviewer (DPE) Certification. Bilingual in English/Spanish

Or

Senior Engineer: Current Virginia PE License and Engineering-In-Training Certificate. Certified Construction Manager. Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI) Designated Plan Reviewer (DPE) Certification. Bilingual in English/Spanish
