SUMMER 2025 LAKEWOOD HEALTHCARE INTERNSHIP & FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (PAID*)
The Lakewood Health Care Internship & Fellowship Program is a six-week immersive summer experience that integrates clinical shadowing, professional development, leadership growth, and meaningful Jewish learning—all within a warm, growth-oriented community. Students gain firsthand exposure to healthcare practice while connecting with accomplished medical professionals and peers who share their drive for purpose and impact.
Internship Experience
The core of the program is a Monday–Thursday placement at respected medical institutions, private practices, and community health centers. Internships are designed to provide genuine exposure to patient care, mentorship, and the healthcare system in action.
- Opportunities include physician shadowing, guided case studies, and facility tours.
- Host sites include AcuteCare Health System (Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey), CHEMED Health Center, Bikur Cholim of Lakewood, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
- Disciplines include Primary Care, Cardiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Orthodontics, Pain Management, and Podiatry.
- *Several internships are paid.
- Select placements may continue after the Fellowship concludes.
Leadership & Professional Development
Fellows benefit from direct access to accomplished clinicians, researchers, and healthcare administrators through structured networking and educational programming.
- Weekly professional dinners and roundtables with physicians, specialists, and healthcare leaders.
- Guest lectures from medical professionals such as Dr. Howard Lebowitz (Chief Medical Officer, AcuteCare Health System), Dr. Daniel Roth (Associate Clinical Professor, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School), and Dr. Dovid Friedman (CEO, CHEMED Health Center).
- Workshops and discussions on medical ethics, communication, and leadership in healthcare.
The Fellowship
The program begins with a four-day leadership and community orientation introducing Fellows to the Lakewood environment and one of the world’s foremost centers of Jewish learning and hospitality.
Ensuing weekend retreats and guided study sessions provide opportunities for reflection, connection, and growth. Learning experiences are accessible and engaging for students of all backgrounds.
- Seven weekend Shabbatonim (Thursday night–Sunday) in Lakewood, the Catskills, Monsey, and Far Rockaway. One weekend off is permitted.
- One-on-one study and interactive talks exploring themes of ethics, purpose, and compassion in medicine.
Community & Program Life
The Fellowship fosters strong community ties through shared living, orientation, and engagement opportunities.
- Housing provided at the new Torah Links Student Residence Hall in Lakewood, NJ.
- Transportation available for interns who commute to local medical sites.
