This internship is part of the Schwartz Community Based Internships. This premier opportunity allows UR undergraduate students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

What You’ll Do 

Interns will work alongside RCN’s Development & Marketing team, gaining real-world experience in nonprofit fundraising, event planning, and marketing strategy. Responsibilities may include:

Marketing & Communications 

  • Assist with digital content creation for newsletters, social media, and donor outreach
  • Write and edit blog posts, website content, and marketing copy 
  • Assist in creating email campaigns to engage donors, parents, and community partners 
  • Help with brand messaging and storytelling to communicate RCN’s impact 

Graphic & Web Design 

  • Design flyers, posters, brochures, and social media graphics using Canva or Adobe tools 
  • Assist with website updates, landing page optimization, and blog formatting 
  • Help maintain brand consistency across all materials 
  • Resize and optimize images for web and print marketing

 Social Media Management 

  • Develop, schedule, and post content across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Monitor engagement and respond to comments/messages 
  • Research and implement social media best practices to grow our audience
  •  Create and analyze social media reports to measure campaign effectiveness

Fundraising & Events 

  • Support the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising events and donor campaigns 
  • Assist with sponsor outreach and stewardship
  • Help coordinate raffles, auctions, and donation appeals
  • Organize donor appreciation initiatives such as thank-you notes and recognition materials 

Donor Stewardship & Management 

  • Help update and manage RCN’s donor database
  •  Research potential grant opportunities and corporate sponsorships 
  • Assist in writing funding proposals and donor impact reports 
  • Develop personalized donor thank-you campaigns to foster stronger relationships
