Position Summary
SCR Summer Urban Initiative Cabin Counselors play a vital role in shaping the camp experience for each camper. Counselors live alongside campers in cabins and actively walk with them through their daily schedule of sports, activities, and programs. They are responsible for leading and facilitating activities, Bible studies, and devotionals while modeling Christlike character in all aspects of camp life. From meals to recreation to evening programs, counselors are called to exemplify the love of Christ, creating an environment that encourages spiritual growth, builds community, and fosters lasting relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Live in cabins with assigned campers, providing guidance, supervision, and support throughout the day and night.
- Lead daily Bible studies, devotionals, and discussions that encourage spiritual growth and connection to Christ.
- Model Christlike behavior in words, actions, and attitudes, creating a positive and welcoming environment.
- Accompany campers to meals, sports, and activities, ensuring safety, participation, and engagement.
- Facilitate and/or assist with recreational activities, games, and evening programs.
- Build meaningful relationships with campers through intentional conversations, encouragement, and mentorship.
- Foster community within the cabin by promoting teamwork, respect, and inclusion.
- Address behavioral issues with patience, consistency, and care, following camp guidelines.
- Partner with fellow staff to ensure smooth daily operations and maintain a safe, Christ-centered camp culture.
- Serve as a role model in personal spiritual growth, integrity, and servant leadership.
- Complete other duties assigned by the Urban Initiative Director or Men’s/Women’s Director
Qualifications
- Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to living a life that reflects biblical values. Commitment to the mission and ministry philosophy of Stoney Creek Ranch Urban Initiative.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to lead small groups in Bible studies, devotionals, and discussions while mentoring and encouraging campers.
- Relational Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds and foster a supportive community. Strength in connecting with and building relationships with children & college age students.
- Servant Leadership: Displays humility, patience, and a willingness to put others first in service and care.
- Responsibility & Reliability: Dependable, flexible, and able to manage responsibilities such as supervision, safety, and schedule adherence.
- Team Collaboration: Works well with fellow counselors and staff to create a unified and Christ-centered camp environment. Willingness to accept direction from staff.
- Adaptability: Comfortable navigating changing schedules, high-energy environments, and unexpected challenges.
Experience (Preferred but not Required): Previous experience working with youth, leading in ministry, or participating in camp settings.
