IT Engineering Intern

The Alaska Northstar Resources (ANR) team is currently looking to hire an existing college student or recent grad to participate in a 10-week paid summer internship program. This position offers interns the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside IT professionals, applying classroom knowledge to tackle real-world challenges. Interns will finish the role with a sense of achievement and an understanding of the importance of task prioritization.

 

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

  • Shadowing a Program Manager to learn activities of IT workers 
  • Supporting the maintenance and use of a current Development Laboratory
  • Managing user access and permissions to cloud resources that may include AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI
  • Building and managing cloud accounts, cloud-based networks and general cloud landing zones
  • Support development teams using an ANR provided cloud-based development space
  • Auditing cloud resource usage to ensure usage is within corporate guidelines
  • Identify areas for improvement for technology, processes and procedures and assist in implementing improvements

Requirements

Candidate must have at least 2 years of higher academic experience with the following:

  • Programming experience with one or more software development languages
  • Linux Operating system experience
  • GitHub cloud-based collaboration platform
  • Cloud 
  • Current College Student enrolled in an IT-based (or Computer Science/Engineering) curriculum with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
  • Willingness to follow instruction and learn as well as be available for agreed upon work hours 
  • Candidate must a U.S. Citizen

At the completion of the summer internship, interns will be required to present a group project including their findings and experience to the executive leadership team.

Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by ANR.
