Senior Education Coordinator of Teen & Adult Programs

Primary Responsibilities: 

 

  • Serves as ZooGuide Project Manager which includes participant recruitment through working with community partners, writing and delivering training, and managing ZooGuide coordinators.
  • Serves as lead contact for the docent program which includes writing and delivering training, recruiting and supervising volunteers.
  • Serves as the lead educator for tabling events in the community.
  • Serves as program instructor for education programming, such as camps & zoo to you, as needed.  
  • Plans and facilitates the youth group program.
  • Maintains the biofact collection including cataloging, teaching the biofact loan workshop, and oversees the offsite loan program.
  • Designs & facilitates professional development for local educators such as the NYS Master Teachers Program.
  • Creates Project Based Learning curriculum. 
  • Ensures adequate coverage of the Jr. Vet Clinic and Explorer’s Outpost by ZooGuides or other volunteers.
  • Attends regular staff meetings, including Education Staff, All-Staff and Zootopia meetings.
  • Runs ZooGuide staff meetings with ZooGuide Coordinators and the ZooGuides themselves.

 

Required Training and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, zoology, biology, environmental science or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in an educational capacity in a school, zoo, aquarium, nature center or similar organization.
  • Minimum of two years’ management experience.
  • Experience with working with both volunteers and underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards and the Common Core Learning Standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate and communicate scientific and conservation messages in a lively, engaging manner to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent public speaking, organizational, record keeping skills and writing skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed, flexible, work as a team player, achieve established goals and maintain accurate records.
  • Proficient with computer programs, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and a registered and insured vehicle. Must be able to use personal vehicle for work purposes.  NYS DMV Clearance.
