PlacemakingCorps Coordinator

Position Purpose:  

The PlacemakingCorps Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and successful operation of an AmeriCorps program. This includes recruitment, training, supervision, and support of AmeriCorps members, as well as ensuring compliance with grant requirements and organizational goals. The coordinator works to create a positive and impactful service experience for members while strengthening the program's relationship with community partners.


 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Program Management & Compliance:
    1. Report regularly to the program director on program progress.
    2. Ensure all program activities and reporting are in full compliance with federal, state, and local AmeriCorps grant regulations.
    3. Implement and maintain program policies, procedures, and training materials.
    4. Collect, analyze, and report on program performance measures and member service and training/education hours; Contribute to evaluations as requested.
    5. Attend and ensure all members attend AmeriCorps conferences, trainings, and workshops as needed.
  2. Member Recruitment & Support:
    1. Lead recruitment, interviewing, and selection process for all AmeriCorps members.
    2. Coordinate and facilitate new member orientation and ongoing training sessions.
    3. Provide direct supervision, coaching, professional development to members.
    4. Act as a point of contact for member questions, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  3. Community Engagement:
    1. Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and other stakeholders.
    2. Represent the program at community events, meetings, and conferences to promote the program's mission.
    3. Work collaboratively with other staff to integrate AmeriCorps members into the organization's broader initiatives.
  4. Administration & Operations:
    1. Maintain accurate member files and program records.
    2. Manage program marketing efforts, including social media and website content.
  5. Be a role model to participants and staff in your attitude and behavior:
  6. Set a good example to members, participants, and others in regard to general program procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.

       b.    Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.

6. Represent the organization when interacting with parents or community members.

       a.   Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their participants  to have a successful program experience.

       b.   Follow safety and security protocols when participants are in public while presenting a  positive image of the organization.

Relationships: The PlacemakingCorps Coordinator will report to the Programs Director and work with other program coordinators. The PlacemakingCorps Coordinator will oversee the AmeriCorps Members, ensuring that their participants meet project deliverables on time and that members are aware of what they must do to complete education/training and service hours.


 

Equipment Used: The Placemaking Coordinator may be asked to use fire protection equipment and project-related program equipment.  

Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Must show proof.
  • Proven experience in program management, volunteer coordination, or staff supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills like public speaking and presentations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data management.
  • Preferred: 

             Previous AmeriCorps member experience or in a similar national service program.

            Knowledge of federal grant requirements and reporting.

            Experience in a non-profit or community-based organization.

  • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
  • Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience which may include, but need not be limited to, developing place-based experiences, service learning projects, in-classroom workforce development experiences, worksite development, providing career coaching and counseling, event planning, and working in the field of education and youth workforce development.
  • Academic background in Communications, Youth Development, Workforce Development, Public Health, Environmental Health, and/or a related field.
  • Life experience in and passion for the outdoors a MUST.
  • COVID vax proof required.

  • Some travel may be required.
  • Bilingual a strong plus.

Physical Aspects of the Job:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to participants and staff.
  • Ability to observe participant behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Visual/auditory ability to identify and respond to hazards related to activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist participants in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of participants and projects.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and program activities.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate participant activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willing to work irregular hours and on Saturdays in the summer with daily exposure to the sun, heat, rain, bugs, and other outdoor creatures.
