Wood Machinist
We are seeking a skilled Wood Machinist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in machining processes and be proficient in operating various CNC machines. This role requires attention to detail, precision, and the ability to work with a variety of tools and machines. The Machinist will be responsible for producing high-quality wood components that meet strict specifications while adhering to safety and quality standards.
- Machine setup and operation: Set up and operate a variety of woodworking machines, such as saws, jointers, sanders, routers, planers, and lathes. This includes both manual and CNC (computer numerically controlled) machines.
- Interpreting plans: Study blueprints, work orders, and sketches to understand project specifications and identify the correct sequence of operations.
- Cutting and shaping: Cut, shape, plane, turn, and sand wood stock to precise dimensions and specifications.
- Quality control: Measure, examine, and test finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and are free of defects.
- Finishing: Smooth surfaces, apply stains, varnishes, lacquers, or paints, and polish finished pieces.
- Assembly: Fasten pieces together using adhesives and other hardware to create complete products.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machinery.
- Safety: Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines, which may include wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety glasses and hearing protection.
Required skills and qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating manual and automated woodworking machinery, including CNC equipment.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to use hand tools for setup, calibration, and minor adjustments.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in reading blueprints and ensuring all parts conform to exact specifications.
- Math Skills: Understanding of basic geometry and calculations is essential for visualizing and creating complex shapes.
- Physical Stamina: The ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials.
