Mechanical Engineering Internship Summer 2026

Applications are now being accepted for the Summer 2026 Internship Program. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in interviews anticipated to take place in early 2026. 

 

Program Overview  

Kitchell’s 12-week internship program offers more than just hands-on project experience: it’s an immersive opportunity to learn, connect, and grow as part of a supportive team that is shaping the future of construction. You’ll work side-by-side with industry professionals, receive direct mentorship from our leadership team, and participate in experiences that combine technical learning with professional development and fun. 

Our interns play a meaningful role on real projects across the K-12, higher education, and municipal market sectors, while building connections with peers and mentors that last well beyond the summer.

Responsibilities 

  • Assist to prepare mechanical and plumbing system designs at the schematic, design development, and construction document phases of a project.
  • Analyzes design and construction issues for solutions and/or incorporation.
  • Develops technical specifications as required in accordance with supervisor input and coordination.
  • Performs professional review and analysis of mechanical designs and construction.
  • Performs value engineering analysis and review.
  • Conducts on-site observations of work to evaluate compliance with plans and analyze field changes.
  • Evaluates building and site conditions and prepares technical reports of investigations.
  • Assists in commissioning services, as directed.
  • Assists in CAD/Revit drawing development / detailing.
  • Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

Education and Experience  

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Knowledge of the architecture, engineering and construction management industry.
  • Effective computer skills including proficient use of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, DWG  Viewer, AutoCAD LT, and specialized software appropriate to professional qualification preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to gather and interpret complex data.
  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies of achieving results, initiative, teamwork and analytical thinking.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office 365. 

 

Licenses and Certifications 

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, free from suspensions or restrictions is required.  

 

Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently inspects the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, while wearing personal protective equipment. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions due to work activities occurring both inside and outside. 

 

Physical Requirements 

While performing the duties of this job, the position is moderately active and the employee is frequently standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The position also may also be sitting for long periods of time.? 

 

Travel Requirements 

This position is office based in person Full-Time, with occasional travel to project sites.  ??

The starting hourly range for this role is currently $25.00 - $28.00 per hour. The Company’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including job-related skills, relevant education and experience, abilities of the applicant and equity with other team members. The annual base salary range listed here is subject to change at any time, in the Company’s discretion, and does not alter in any way the at-will nature of the employment relationship.
