Row Crop Field Scout Summer Internship

CaroVail is seeking motivated and driven individuals for our Field Scout Summer Internship program. As an intern, you will gain hands - on experience scouting and evaluating a variety of field crops, including corn, soybeans, alfalfa, wheat, and others, depending on your assigned location.

This internship provides an excellent opportunity to learn directly from Certified Crop Advisors, experienced location managers, and other agricultural professionals. You'll also be challenged to solve problems independently in the field while identifying crop issues, such as pest pressure, disease, and nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, you will gain insight into how environmental factors influence plant development and yield. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field scouting for crop health, pest presence, and nutrient needs
  • Collecting and analyzing soil and tissue samples
  • Assisting with crop research trials and data collection
  • Observing and participating in precision agriculture practices (e.g. drones, variable rate technology, etc.)
  • Participating in field days hosted by universities and industry partners
  • Visiting multiple CaroVail locations to understand diverse operational strategies 
  • Managing data entry and field reporting systems
  • Regularly engaging with growers and supporting field staff

Desired Qualification:

  • Strong interest in agriculture and crop production
  • Eagerness to learn and ask questions
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
