Description
The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering post graduate bachelor's or master's internship at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR).
Why should I apply?
As an ORISE participant and under the guidance of a mentor, your research area focus will be projects for antibacterial development. The hypothesis is that proteins required for bacterial viability, virulence and pathogenicity are targets for therapeutic development. You will learn and perform in-vitro screening methods to include checkerboard, MIC, biofilm, time-kill, zone of inhibitions, bacterial culture and bacterial quantification. You will gain experience with in vivo experiments (drug dosing, animal necropsy and surgery, animal infection), perform sample and data management (collect, analyze, and enter experimental data), maintain up to date laboratory notebook, report findings to PIs, and present data during lab meetings. As WRAIR prepares you for the labor force, you will gain valuable insights needed to become a professional scientist and federal laboratory protocols. In addition, your mentor will develop learning objects to fit your personal career development goals, while providing guidance and education that will prepare you for your future.
Where will I be located?
Bethesda, Maryland
